The ideological feint of telenovelas is that the manifest content (the love story itself) is a mask for its latent one (fostering a consensus that only a life within capitalism is desirable: no matter what the premise of the show is, the main characters are always upwardly mobile in glossy companies).
Opposition to militants who are interviewed and reported on in primetime news programs can’t be found in the news itself. You have to wait till the primetime telenovelas air. The suffering hero/heroine works hard to attain wealth for them and their family. They make activists look like, as what many people have been led to believe, lazy bastards. I am almost tempted to think that telenovelas are more dangerous ideological forms than news shows.
